Pentecost Sunday is this coming Sunday, 23rd May.  The word comes from the Greek meaning, “the fiftieth day”.  It is the name given to the descent of the Holy Spirit on the apostles fifty days after Easter.

When the Holy Spirit descended on the Apostles, they preached the Good News of Jesus Christ.  Miraculously, people of many different languages and nations could understand the Apostles in their own languages.  This miracle reflected God’s desire for the Gospel to be preached to all, and for all the peoples of the earth to be united in faith.

This coming Monday, we will be celebrating Pentecost as a school by learning to pray in many different languages.  All students are encouraged to come to school in red mufti as this is the colour worn at Pentecost as a symbol of the Holy Spirit.
