E te hapori, tēnā koutou, tēnā koutou katoa

It has been great to see our happy students again this week. Over the break teachers have been preparing for an exciting term of work, continuing on our theme based around the whakataukī ‘Kia kawea tātou e te rēhia’. In NZ, many meetings, events or days start with a whakataukī. They are kind of like proverbs or sayings to make you think or act differently. 

Whaka=to make

Tau=settle

Kī=to say

Therefore, something said to make people settled (remember like most languages, except English, descriptors ie adjectives and adverbs, come second). It often does this as people can be tense at the beginning of a meeting about some agenda they have and then, they think about the whakataukī and boom, they go into thoughtful mode and think about it.

The whakatauki we use means, ‘Let us be carried by entertainment’. Basically, entertainment and fun is essential and can be the main reason to do things, not just doing things for money or status or whatever. We hope you will be ‘kawea / carried’ by the ‘rēhia / entertainment’ of us at the cultural festival in about seven weeks, more music performances, storytelling and other ‘The Arts’ based performances. 

FEAST DAY

Please be respectful on this day. It is not a mufti day. However, students can swap out items of their uniform for something red or green. The item needs to be the majority that colour, not just a little square. As a guide 90% that colour. It is so students are aware that those colours are attributed to St Anne, she is always painted in these colours. Red represents love, love for Mary who would then have Jesus and pass on that model of love to him. Green represents life, growth and rebirth. Rebirth because her story is similar to Abraham and Sarah’s story 2000 years earlier with Abraham’s family given favour by God. 

This day is also for grandparents, please make an effort this Friday to contact your or your child’s grandparents. I good time to say hello and do something nice for them. 

Feast days are celebrations, the St Anne’s Staff will be celebrating by beating the senior students at netball and basketball after Mass on Friday.

Information and the link for these will be published in Skool Loop Notices and on the Facebook page by Friday.  School will finish at 12.15pm on Wednesday 7th August for Rooms 5, 6 and 7.  If supervision cannot be found on this day, please let the school know and we will supervise them in the library.  The teachers look forward to sharing your child’s progress with you.
