Advent
This week is the first week of Advent and the beginning of the new liturgical year. The word Advent means ‘coming’. It is a time of preparation as we await the first coming of Jesus and anticipate his promised second coming.
During the four weeks of Advent, we prepare for the celebration of Christ’s birth through prayer and reflection. Amid the flurry of Christmas preparations, it can be difficult to find the time for prayer.
For a practical way to observe the holiness of the season of Advent, Father John O’Connor is going to lead a daily prayer via his Food for Faith website. If you would like to participate in this reflective prayer guide throughout Advent, go to the Food for Faith Website here and sign up.
A Prayer for the First Week of Advent
Heavenly Father, as we begin this Advent,
give light to our eyes and peace to our hearts.
May the Lord find us watching and waiting in joy when He comes.
We pray in Jesus’ name,
Amen
