From the Principal

Kia ora koutou!

Last evening we had our Commissioning Mass to start the year.  Bishop Paul Martin led proceedings and although it was very hot, it was great to see all the other Catholic school principals and teachers there.  We acknowledged Mr Josh Halkett who received his certificate in Religious Studies meaning he had completed six theology papers totaling around 300 hours of study.  Ngā mihi nui ki a ia!! Homework / Ora Ake Challenges
We hope children have settled into their new classes and are ready to give our homework challenges a go.  These are just being tweaked and printed but should be ready to go tomorrow.  The students have until mid-November to achieve eight challenges (two from each category).

Wednesday’s Meet the Teacher and Class Performances
On Wednesday we will have open classrooms from 4.30 pm – 5.30 pm where you can come in with your child, meet the teacher, look around the room and check out some learning.
Following that each class will present a song on our whare tapere (stage).  Please ensure all children are here by 5.15 pm.  We aim for this to start around 5.30 pm and families can have a BYO picnic tea on the grass, while watching the performances.  Please be considerate regarding volume and movement if you have siblings coming, students will be nervous as it will be the first time performing on the stage to a large group.  Classes have only been working on their songs for a few weeks but we hope students will enjoy performing on the stage for you and that they learn from each event, improving their confidence and performance abilities.

Survey
A survey will be coming home via email and then paper regarding devices at home and the internet.  It is a follow-up from last year’s survey as many people have sorted devices and internet at home since the lockdown. Thank you in advance for doing this!

Have a good weekend when it arrives!
