Tālofa Lava!
Welcome to Sāmoan Language Week! This week is important in our calendar as we have a high number of Sāmoan students. We love what our Sāmoan community brings to our school and we embrace the culture. Tomorrow (Thursday) we will celebrate with some fun events.
Why Sāmoan Language Week? There is a ‘language week’ for most of the Pasifika languages as our government aims to help the pacific nations to preserve culture and language. Like Māori here, indigenous languages have been on the decline. It is our effort to remind all, that language is part of culture and culture helps form us! As we say in Māori, kia kaha te reo! May the language be strong!!!!! Gagana Sāmoa!
Thursday Events & Activities
Cultural dress – If you are of Sāmoan descent and would like to wear some cultural clothing tomorrow (Thursday), please do. We usually do this on Friday but the weather looks better tomorrow.
Feast – Put a little less in the lunchbox tomorrow as we will be having our annual Sāmoa bakery supplied feast.
Manuia le aso!
